    New Year’s Resolutions – How’s It Going?

In January, you were excited about the new year.  You were glad 2013 was over, Some parts of it was good but other parts not so much.  Like most people, you sat down (hopefully you did this with God) and made a new plan for the new year.

Soooooo, it’s almost March, how’s it going?

Well, I can say that for the most part I’m still running at a good pace. The new things I wanted to start, I did and I’m still working on them. Thank God that his mercy and grace is new everyday (smile)

However, I still have two things that I have not started – fix my bad eating habits & start working out again. This has really been a thorn in my side for a long time. I used to be skinny so I ate what I wanted, when I wanted. However, after getting out of rehab for drug addiction, I started gaining weight and I still have all but 20 pound of it. Rehab was 25 years ago. Yes I said it, it was 25 years ago. I should be embarrassed but I’m not. I cycle back and forth between what I want to do (flesh box) and what’s right to do (spirit box). Does that sound familiar to anyone else?

Here’s what God says about a “thorn” in your side:

2 Corinthians 12:9 (amp) – But He said to me, My grace (My favor and loving-kindness and mercy) is enough for you [sufficient against any danger and enables you to bear the trouble manfully]; for My strength and power are made perfect (fulfilled and completed) and [a]show themselves most effective in [your] weakness. Therefore, I will all the more gladly glory in my weaknesses and infirmities, that the strength and power of Christ (the Messiah) may rest (yes, may[b]pitch a tent over and dwell) upon me!

Ok God, I hear you! I know that your grace is more than enough and that the Holy Spirit is here to help me, but I still do not like working out! I hate it, but I hate being overweight too! What the hell am I gonna do?  Do I really have a choice? Well, I’ve decided that I’m going to do what the Word says:

2 Thessalonians 3:13 (cev)  – Dear friends, you must never become tired of doing right.

So, even though I love strawberry shortcake from O’teri’s Bakery, it doesn’t love me back. If it did it would not have left this fat on my thighs & belly.(smile)

So let’s pull out the check list and get started:

    1. Write or rewrite the goal/objective. Make sure it is realistic. Start small. Be honest about what didn’t work and why, then adjust the plan.

Habakkuk 2:2 –  And the Lord answered me and said, Write the vision and engrave it so plainly upon tablets that everyone who passes may [be able to] read [it easily and quickly] as he hastens by.

    2. Keep the plan in your face. Make it a wallpaper for you cell phone, make it a theme on your computer, set reminders on you calendars, both on your cell phone & computer.

    3. Be mindful of the consequences. For me, the consequences of bad eating habits and the lack of exercise is sickness & disease. Satan is trying everyday to kill me so I am not going to help him.

    4. Stop trying to do things by yourself. This is the most important thing to remember. Most of us fail because we are doing things on our own. God sent help:

John 14:26 – But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you.

God will also send help in the form of people but only be led to them by the Holy Spirit.

So, I’m going back to my Fitness Pal app, got my list out and I’m going to start over right now, how bout you? What things do you still need to start? What’s in your way?

Jesus – How Does He Love & How Do You Love?

    Happy Valentine’s Day!

As we celebrate who we love and being loved today, who better to talk about than Jesus!

He was the greatest example of love and  how to love.

    True Love

We can see from the scripture above (John 15:13) that Jesus showed his love for us by laying down his life so we could be saved (make sure you thank Him for that). But what does Jesus say to us about love?

    John 13:34-35 (amp)

I give you a new commandment: that you should love one another. Just as I have loved  you, so you too should love one another. By this shall all [men] know that you are My disciples, if you love one another [if you keep on showing love among yourselves].

But do you really know why you are commanded to love?

God’s love brings power to our lives. Why would you need His power?  Because we have a real enemy who is trying everyday to stop us. God’s power is our weapon to fight back! After winning (you can’t lose), you’re now free to do whatever Satan was trying to stop you from doing. Please read Ephesians 3:14-20, it’s too long to add all of it here. So I just added a taste..

    Ephesians 3:19-20 (amp)

19 [That you may really come] to know [practically, [a]through experience for yourselves] the love of Christ, which far surpasses [b]mere knowledge [without experience]; that you may be filled [through all your being] [c]unto all the fullness of God [may have the richest measure of the divine Presence, and[d]become a body wholly filled and flooded with God Himself]!  20 Now to Him Who, by (in consequence of) the [action of His] power that is at work within us, is able to [carry out His purpose and] do super abundantly, far over and above all that we [dare] ask or think [infinitely beyond our highest prayers, desires, thoughts, hopes, or dreams]

God loves you so much and He knew every mistake you would ever make and He made you anyway, He sent you to earth to help Him anyway. So as we celebrate “love” today, let’s love on Jesus!

So, let’s have some fun today!

Let’s work on increasing” how we love” & “who we love”. Let’s try to love someone who is hard to love (we are only legends in our own minds-smile). Today, let’s be like Jesus and lay our lives down for someone else.

Now – don’t get all religious on me. Let’s keep this simple. Don’t try to do this without asking God to lead you. Ask God to show you how to increase “how you love”  & “who you love” to honor Him. Then wait, listen, then do. Then watch how you’ve changed the lives of others but yours too!

What do you think? Let me know how your Valentine’s Day is. How are you increasing how you love?

I’ve Said “Yes” to Jesus – Now What God?

You may have just got saved by accepting Jesus as the Son of God or you’ve been saved for years but nothing has changed in your life.  Either way you want the benefits of Him leading your life. That is wonderful, but what comes next? If you ask 10 people you may get 10 different answers. So since I’ve been “saved” for over 18 years let me make some simple suggestions that will help you:

Myth # 1 -This will be quick.  And I will be changed with no work form me.  That’s a lie.  This is not a quick fix & your life will not automatically get better. The truth is now that your spirit is saved there are other parts of you that are not. Soooooo, guess who gets to save your other parts?  That’s right, you do. Good news, God has already laid out a plan for you to do it, but YOU do have to do it  And it will take some time. God’s been calling you for a long time, so give Him at least that amount of time to show Himself to you. You will not be sorry you did.

Romans 12:2 (MSG) – Place Your Life Before God – 12 1-2 So here’s what I want you to do, God helping you: Take your everyday, ordinary life—your sleeping, eating, going-to-work, and walking-around life—and place it before God as an offering. Embracing what God does for you is the best thing you can do for him. Don’t become so well-adjusted to your culture that you fit into it without even thinking. Instead, fix your attention on God. You’ll be changed from the inside out. Readily recognize what he wants from you, and quickly respond to it. Unlike the culture around you, always dragging you down to its level of immaturity, God brings the best out of you, develops well-formed maturity in you.

Myth # 2 – I have to be perfect or God will punish me. The truth is if you could be perfect you already would be perfect & you wouldn’t need a savior, you would be the savior. And since you are not the Savior, God made it simple for you. All you have to do is ask Him what to do in any & every situation & He’ll tell you what to do.  Sounds simple doesn’t it?  It really is. The challenge will be in waiting on God’s timing & not getting ahead of Him. But I am living proof it does work & work well!

1 John 5:14-15 (AMP) – Confidence/Compassion in Prayer – 14 And this is the confidence (the assurance, the privilege of boldness) which we have in Him: [we are sure] that if we ask anything (make any request) according to His will (in agreement with His own plan), He listens to and hears us.  15 And if (since) we [positively] know that He listens to us in whatever we ask, we also know [with settled and absolute knowledge] that we have [granted us as our present possessions] the requests made of Him.

So, now you have to discover what God’s plan for your life! Ask him to lead you to the Bible teaching church He wants you to attend. He would’ve already placed people there to help you.

Myth #3 – I now have to be like I think “church” people should be, or what “church” people say I should be like.

God made you the way He wanted you to be. He doesn’t want you to be like anyone else. He is not surprised about who you are & what you have done. He’s not even shocked about what you may do tomorrow. Yes, you’ve made some mistakes, we all have, but He loves us because He knows all the great things He’s put in you. Now it’s your job to discover these things for yourself. Your new journey of discovery begins now! Let’s get this party started!

I also strongly suggest you talk to God & ask Him to show you the difference between religion & relationship with Him.  Get to know God for yourself by spending time talking with Him, asking Him questions about what He thinks & what He wants for your life. Ask Him questions that you may have always wanted to ask but didn’t know you could. God will talk to you like you talk to Him.  Don’t depend on man to tell you what God is saying, always ask Him to tell you what He means. We are only here to guide you, not be your God!

Sooo, did this help you?  Do you have something to add? Please feel free to respond

Also, If you have a subject about God you want us to talk about please forward it.
